Days Out in Kent: Wingham Wildlife Park

Holding more species than any other zoo in Kent and holding the title of most popular attraction in Kent during the 2012 Kent Big Weekend, Wingham Wildlife Park is a must for anyone visiting Kent. It is great fun for all the family, especially kids.

I think the reasons why I love Wingham Wildlife Park over the other zoos in Kent is because it allows you to really interact with the animals and it puts great emphasis on conservation. Whilst they provide the best possible opportunities for their animals to reproduce (particularly the endangered species) they also fundraise for animals that are not within their park.

Interaction with the Animals

There are lots of enclosures that you can walk through and interact with the animals:

Ring-Tailed Lemurs enclosure

Chilean Flamingos enclosure

Tropical House

Butterfly Room (butterflies from Philippines & Malaysia, Central and South America)

There are also peacocks, chickens and ducks just roaming free around the park.

Dotted around the park are animal food vending machines, so you can feed the goats, fish, birds etc. However it costs 50p per handful…. so I found that quite expensive.

Talks

They also have informative talks going on at different times throughout the day- we rocked up just in time to listen to the penguin talk. I will warn you though, the fish used to feed the penguins was so potent!

Dinosaur Exhibition

More recently, the park has opened up an impressive moving dinosaur exhibition. Great fun for the kids.

And me…

Ticket Prices:

Adult- £17.00
Concession- £15.00

Child (under 2)- FREE
Family (2 adults and 2 Children)- £56.00

Overall, Wingham Bird park is an excellent day out. There are over 200 different species to see and information is provided on all of them, which is handy. Since there are both indoor and outdoor areas, you can still see a lot of the exhibitions on a rainy day (which is bound to happen in England). Furthermore, if you have children, there are huge play areas, with electric go-karts, that the kids can play on whilst you relax. So much to do, see and experience. A truly fantastic day out and a must if you are visiting Kent.
